Order of the Karnataka High Court regarding people engaged in the business of crackers and firework items plying business in the congested areas of Bangalore city.

The Director General of Police through an order, September 27, 2013 had prohibited those in the business of crackers and firework items from carrying on their business in the congested areas of Bengaluru city.

The High Court upheld the ban on firecrackers business in congested areas of Bengaluru said that "explosive substances being ‘res extra commercium’ like the liquor, poison, etc., no citizen can claim an unrestricted fundamental right under Article 19(1) (g) of the Constitution to carry on trade and business of the kind". The court said that should a section of traders be permitted to continue their firecracker business in the area, it would expose the public to enormous hazards and dismissed the writ petition.

The petitioners are engaged in the business of crackers and fireworks items.
