Report of the Joint Committee in compliance of the National Green Tribunal orders, April 29, 2022 in the matter of Original Application No. 289/2022 (Amandeep Singh & Others Vs State of Punjab).

The matter related to illegal operation of 18 brick kilns in villages Gharota, Nala, Bhawani, Jangal, Mamial, Chasma, Kaunterpur, Aima Changam, Parmanand and Marhi, district Pathankot, Punjab in violation of terms and conditions imposed by the government of Punjab under the Punjab Control of Bricks Supplies, Price and Distribution Control Order, 1998.

The report informed the NGT, that out of 18 brick kilns, one of the brick kilns in village Jangal, Pathankot district has been closed down and is not in operation since long. The remaining 17 brick kilns are temporarily not in operation due to the rainy season. These 17 brick kilns have valid consents to operate of the Punjab Pollution Control Board under the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.

All of these 17 brick kilns have adopted induced draft technology with a zig zag setting. Further, all the 17 brick kilns have obtained the license for production and sale of bricks from the Department of Food and Civil Supplies.
