Factual and action taken report of Joint Committee in the matter of Original Application No. 03/2022 (CZ) in the matter of Varun Gulati Vs Union of India & Others. The matter related to the issue of illegal sand mining in the river bed of river Sindh (tributary of river Yamuna) in district Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh has been raised, which is being carried out on the Barkari, Hathnora, Semri, Silli, Kaithoda, Lidhoura, Pawaya, Lohari sites/ghats in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh in an unscientific manner by using poclain/JCB machines and other earth moving mechanical equipments.

The report said that in Gwalior district only 10 sand mines are sanctioned mines which are given by the Madhya Pradesh State Mining Corporation Limited (MPSMCL). Agreements signed between MPSMCL and contractor firm M/s Madhya Pradesh Sales Corporation, June 3, 2020 for sand mining in Gwalior district for a period up to June 30, 2023.

Joint committee visited all 14 sites mentioned in the petition. No sand mining was observed at 9 sites and sand mining was observed at 5 sites. No EC/CTO was obtained for sand mines at Lidhoura, Semri, Raipur and Belgada.
