Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Bansi Badan Kundu Vs The State of West Bengal & Others dated 21/10/2021.

The matter related to a brickfield located 15 metres away from the Katandhar Bypass, Bankura district, West Bengal.

The report by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board, October 5, 2021 stated that the unit was not operating at the time of inspection. The brickfield has not yet adopted the zig zag technology in terms of the guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Board. Further, there is no multi-layer green belt of 10 metre width along the periphery of the unit. Neither,  3 m high wall was found present on the sides, to prevent fugitive dust emission.

The SPCB has requested the NGT for a grant of four weeks time to compute the environmental compensation and to file a compliance report stating as to whether the unit has been closed down for not adopting the zig zag technology for manufacture of brick kilns.

The prayer has been granted by the NGT and listed the matter, November 29, 2021.
