Compliance report filed by the Municipal Corporation, Bhopal in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in the matter of Aarya Shrivastava Vs Ministry of Environment and Forest & Others.

The matter was related to illegal encroachments on the banks of the southern part of Upper Lake, Bhopal.

The Municipal Corporation, Bhopal said that it was actively engaged in removing the encroachments, if any, made by the public all over the city of Bhopal on a regular basis. Further, on a regular basis notices were being sent to various organizations and encroachers/trespassers for removal of the encroachment created by them near water bodies including in Bhadbhada region.

With respect to allegations of encroachments by constructing permanent structures, the municipal corporation stated that already works for rehabilitation and redevelopment for providing houses to slum dwellers under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Housing for All (Urban) Mission had started.

Under the Amrut Yojana, two schemes have been approved for stopping of sewage water in the Upper Lake, Lower Lake and Shahpura Lake in Bhopal and one scheme has been approved for the treatment of sewage in Kolar, Misrod, Jatkheri and Salaiah area.

However, the work related to STPs was still under process and the delay was due to Covid-19 and all the remaining works related to STPs, sewage pump houses and pipelines would be completed by December 2021.
