Report filed on the illegal operation of a slaughter house, Radhika Nagar, Durg, Chhattisgarh

Action taken report filed by the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board in OA No. 772/2019 in the matter of Madan Sen Vs State of Chhattisgarh. The report was in compliance to the National Green Tribunal order of January 22, 2020 regarding illegal construction of slaughter house in residential area in Radhika Nagar, district Durg.

The Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) had issued a notice on October 25, 2019 to the Commissioner, Nagar Nigam, Bhilai regarding operation of the slaughter house without valid consent and discharge of effluent without treatment. Further, closure direction was issued on November 11, 2019 under section 33 A of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.

The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited disconnected the electricity. When the pollution control board officials inspected the site on November 25, 2019 and February 5, 2020 the slaughter house was found closed. Further, as per the NGT order, the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board had imposed an environmental compensation of Rs. 2,68,87,500 (two crores sixty eight lakhs eighty seven thousand five hundred rupees) - for illegal operation and discharge of untreated effluent from the slaughter house for 2151 days.
