Report by Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board on Metallic Alloys using coke as fuel, Siltara, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, 20/09/2019
Report by Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board in pursuant to the National Green Tribunal order of August 20, 2019 in O.A. No. 644/2019 in the matter of Sudhir Vs State of Chhattisgarh.
The matter related to pollution by M/s Metallic Alloys situated in Industrial Growth Centre, Siltara, Raipur. One of the allegations against the industry was that it was using coke as a fuel, which was in violation of conditions of environmental clearance.
The industry in its report of September 19, 2019 to the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board said that they are not using coke as a fuel. That the process of electric submerged arc furnace was electrically operated and electricity was being supplied by the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited. Further, manganese ore, dolomite and coke are used as raw material for manufacturing process, where coke is used as reducing agent. For control of pollution from the furnace a well efficient heat exchanger with bag filter containing 864 prescribed bags has been installed; which is attached with chimney having height of 30 meters to control the emission under permissible limit.
During inspection, the unit was not in operation, as it was shut down for maintenance.
