Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Residents of Sikandrabad Industrial Area Vs State of Uttar Pradesh dated 18/09/2019 regarding pollution caused by the burning of rubber, cloth, plastic and wood for making steam in the boiler by cement industries at Sikandrabad, District Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh creating lot of air pollution.

An action taken report was sought from the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB). The report which was filed informed the Tribunal that the cement industries are complying with the norms. But some pyrolysis units are using old tyres and two units closed down. In the present hearing, the Tribunal was appraised of the fact that the State PCB was in the process of assessing and recovering the environmental compensation on Polluter Pays principle from the polluting units in question.

The NGT directs the said process to be completed "as far as possible within two months."
