  • 26/08/2019

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of M. C. Mehta Vs Union of India & Others dated 26/08/2019 regarding the removal of cap on the number of three wheeler permits issued in Delhi.

The transport department of Delhi has been directed to submit documents to support the lifting of cap, which was fixed in 2011. And specifically the "over all requirement". EPCA has to submit a report on how many vehicles should be permitted to ply in Delhi keeping in mind the environment aspect, if the cap is lifted. EPCA would be assisted by the transport department for information on details of vehicles. Bajaj Auto had filed the application in 2018 seeking removal of restriction on the number of three wheelers registered in Delhi, with the contention that the three-wheelers now are BS IV compliant and running on CNG.
