Order of the Supreme Court of India regarding delay in demarcation of boundary between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka affecting mining leases, 02/07/2018

  • 02/07/2018

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Government of Andhra Pradesh & Others Vs M/S Obulapuram Mining Co. Ltd. & Others dated 02/07/2018 regarding extension of time in carrying out the demarcation of boundary between the States of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka by 31st August, 2018. The delay in demarcation has an adverse impact on the mining leases that have been granted. The operation of the 7 leases (Category B1) located on or near the inter-State boundary is presently suspended (Order passed by the SC in Samaj Parivartana Samudaya and Others Vs State of Karnataka and Others dated 18th April, 2013).

Supreme Court takes serious note of the fact that the exercise of demarcation which should have been completed way back in 2013 has not been completed for several years and directs the Surveyor General of India to take up the matter with due seriousness and complete the demarcation exercise on or before 31st August, 2018.
