NAMA submissions to the UNFCCC 2012: an overview from a transport perspective

In the lead-up to the Post-2012 climate regime, Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) are increasingly being seen as one of the most promising tools for Non-Annex 1 countries to implement low-carbon development pathways, mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions and, under certain circumstances, to receive international support for their efforts. What sets NAMAs apart from the other mechanisms is that present plans and efforts already in place at national level can be recognised as a NAMA or part of one. This can be seen as a major motivation for developing countries to engage and commit to them. This publication gives an overview of transport NAMAs from a transport perspective. The number of transport or transport related NAMAs has increased substantially in respect to other sectors.
