Performance audit on activities of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board

Performance audit on activities of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board

AERB has failed to prepare a nuclear and radiation safety policy for the country, said CAG in this report tabled in the Parliament recently and recommended strengthening of licensing process for radiation facilities to bring all radiation facilities in the country under regulatory control of this board.

This report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year ended March 2012, containing the results of the performance audit of the ‘Activities of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board’ has been prepared for submission to the President of India under Article 151 of the Constitution. In India, the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) was set up in 1983 under the Atomic Energy Act 1962 to carry out certain regulatory and safety functions envisaged under the Atomic Energy Act. The performance audit of AERB was undertaken in the context of the criticality of issues relating to radiation risks and the effectiveness of the nuclear regulator in the exercise of its role.
