West Bengal wetlands and water bodies conservation policy 2012

An expert committee set up by the Environment Department, Government of West Bengal released a draft policy on wetlands, which suggests that filling up of water bodies should be prohibited by the state government. In the West Bengal Wetlands and Water Bodies Conservation Policy, the four-member panel recommends that no wetlands and water bodies can be filled up, degraded, drained, converted or subjected to any kind of activity that is incompatible with the ecological integrity of the wetlands.
