Pleasure island

Pleasure island andaman and Nicobar Islands intends to promote "high-value low-volume eco- friendly tourism' in a big way. The administration is wooing private entrepreneurs to develop resorts, introduce high-speed boats and adventure water sports. Goodwill Estate has been identified for resorts and the water sports complex near Port Blair and Junglighat has been selected for adventure water sports.

However, while promoting these, the ecosystem of the pristine islands would be kept in mind. Says C R Garg, director of information publicity and tourism, "Our ecology is fragile and we should protect it. We can take in tourists only to the extent we can manage. That is why there is no aggressive publicity effort.'

Apart from tourism, the administration is also keen on tapping the fishery wealth of the region and the commercial potential of the island's floriculture. It is hoped that once Port Blair airport becomes international, flowers can be exported to west Asian countries without any difficulty.
