WEST AFRICA

The World Health Organization (WHO) has given a clean chit to West Africans regarding the deadly Ebola virus. All tests on suspected carriers of the virus have proved negative. The WHO had ordered tests on all those who were in contact with a Liberian refugee, who had tested positive early this month. The news about the Liberian man living near the border between Liberia and Ivory Coast having contracted the virus had fuelled fears of a possible new outbreak of the killer disease. Nearly 245 people were killed in Kikwit, Zaire, early last year by Ebola, which causes high fever and internal and external bleeding.
