155 countries sign the convention at the Rio Summit

India ratifies the convention

50 nations ratify (approved by a country's parliament or cabinet) the convention, making it operational

The convention becomes an international law

SEPTEMBER 1994
Developed nations to submit their report on the implementation of the convention

The 76 countries that have ratified the convention till June 1993 to meet in Berlin to finalise the implementation of the convention
